Bank Director has published its annual Ranking Banking list, a prestigious ranking of the 300 largest publicly traded banks in the United States.  Making two of the lists is Mission Bank, coming in 25th in the nation overall, and 10th in the nation for banks under $5 billion.

Bank Director spoke with Mission Bank President and CEO AJ Antongiovanni in advance and he shared his thoughts on why west coast banks seem to dominate Bank Director’s best of the best.

“In general, California banks enjoy lower cost deposits, which help to boost the bottom line.” said Antongiovanni.  Regarding Mission’s own successes Antongiovanni says the bank’s business model is to thank. “It’s a focus on providing a level of banking to business owners that they don’t get at the largest institutions.”

Mission Bank is in good company, over 10% of Bank Director’s Ranking Banking list features institutions from California.  Bank Director’s annual analysis uses year-end 2025 results and is based on metrics related to profitability, capital, and credit quality.  It is compiled by Piper Sandler & Co. using data from S&P Global Marketing Intelligence.
